1.8 billion VND to support disadvantaged children at Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Festival

On January 27, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam-Singapore relation, the Singapore Embassy in Hanoi, the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association and the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs organized " “Charity Run Vietnam-Singapore Friendship"

Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Hoang Binh Quan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Committee of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Dao Hong Lan, Vice Minister of MOLISA, Mr. Vu Viet Ngoan - Head of Economic Advisory Team of Prime Minister, Ms. Le Thi Nguyet - Vice President of the National Assembly Committee for Social Affairs, Mr. Pham Tat Thang - Vice President of the Committee for Culture, Youth Education; Ms. Catherine Wong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Singapore in Vietnam, and over 1000 athletes participated in the running.

“Charity Run Vietnam-Singapore Friendship" was organized to call on the sponsors to support the National Fund for Vietnamese Children.

At the event, Vice Minister Dao Hong Lan said: "This is a social diplomatic activity contributing to the friendship between the two countries, and efforts to mobilize resources for the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to implement projects to build schools for poor and disadvantaged children in Na Hang district, Tuyen Quang province”.

Thanks to the support of Vietnamese and Singaporean businesses, the charity run mobilized over 1.8 billion VND to sponsor the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. This amount will be used to build school facilities for Ban La School in Tuyen Quang province.

Speaking at the event, Singaporean Ambassador in Vietnam Catherine Wong emphasized the continued development of friendship and strong ties between Vietnam and Singapore, and expressed hope that this close relationship will continue to strengthen in the coming years. Ambassador Wong said the charity run was the first event organized by the Singapore Embassy (along with the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association) to launch a series of events to be held in 2018 to mark the 45th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relation between the two countries. The Ambassador also said that the charity run helped strengthen the already strong linkage between the Singaporean people and Vietnamese people, and expressed their gratitude to Vietnamese and Singaporean enterprises for their contribution to the success of the event.

 “Charity path is a very beautiful path in our lives. By running together, we will be able to run the furthest and the most meaningful distance. I believe that the friendship between Vietnamese and Singaporean people shall be extended along the steps of volunteering and loving hearts. With that volunteering spirit, I believe that Charity Run Vietnam-Singapore Friendship will succeed." said Vu Viet Ngoan, President of the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association
